Web-indexing accessed at Kigali Memorial Center

Went to KMC in the morning and shown the web-indexing application to Yves (head of documentation at KMC). Accessed the indexed testimony of Emmanuel Gatali - it was very slow but it worked. KMC internet connection is very slow and gets interupted intermittently. Their connection will be improved by November.

Ibuka's connection at Nyanza-Kicukiro is being planned and hopefully implemented within the next few months. The rates for a monthly connections are very high - about $1,000 a month for a 512/128 kbps connection.

Afternoon spent being driven around by a local friend and her husband. They took me to a cemetary that is on the opposite hill of the IBUKA building at Nyanza-Kicukiro. I did not know it existed but it holds a few mass graves for those killed on the hill as well as individual graves for a number of well-known politicians killed during the genocide; incl. the Vice-President. These politicians (Hutu) opposed the Hutu-Power ideology and regime and were the first ones targeted on April 7th. On top of that hill were a number of delapidated buildings - they were Habyarimana's resort hotel which he used to get away on weekends. (did not take a photo).
