Just Got in

Landed Kigali International, 7 p.m. local time May 6th - (the post is on Rwandan time and it got posted after 12 pm). Walked off the plane into the pleasant African night, onto the tarmac in the darkness under a star filled sky. Passport control and onto the luggage carousel. Bag number one was my first bag and unfortunately (or fortunately) bag number last, 45 minutes of lost-luggage-anxiety later, was my second bag. A welcoming committee of Benoit and Freddy were waiting for me - great to see them. Bags onto Benoit's pick-up and off we went to the hotel - on the way, got a brief tour of government and local architecture. The sweet night air with plenty of people in the streets and the crazy driving - all sort of reminded me of Italy somehow. Yves met us at the hotel to say welcome.

I checked in, then quick goodbyes with the recommendation to try the local beer to help go to sleep - Muetzig Beer - a local favorite, conveniently stocked in my mini-bar. Didn't need it. After 21 hours of the last 30 spent in the air, I'm exhausted enough. So far can't get online, let's hope for tomorrow - it's going to be a big day. Good night.

I took these [above] on the plane when we were over Sudan and then getting close to Kigali. The map of the Sudan/Darfur Mts. made me think of what is going on there while we sit in the plane watching The Bucket List.
